People hire a coach when they are feeling stuck and are compelled to do something about it. They are seeking a paradigm shift or very simply, a breath of fresh air. I work with clients (individuals and groups) to clarify their current situation and identify steps to move forward towards the life, business or career they desire.

In addition, we look at how the decisions they are making today impact other aspects of their life. I ask clients for permission to offer them challenges, ask questions and give homework assignments to move forward on their goals in between coaching sessions.

Most coaching is accomplished over the telephone in 30-45 minutes sessions, 2 to 4 times per month. I will meet with individual clients, in person if requested, and will travel to meet with business clients.

The most important thing to realize is that the value and impact of coaching happens in between the sessions. A flat monthly fee will be charged to individual clients as I expect them to implement what they learn while noticing the impact of their experience outside the coaching sessions. The sessions lay the ground work for what is yet to occur in your life. My alliance with each client is specifically and individually designed to best address your agenda. We will sign a written agreement with each other based on what we have negotiated so that we have a solid framework on which to base our work together.

For corporations and businesses, I will offer a written proposal based on an initial consultation with the prospective client, outlining the purpose and scope of work to be done as well as pricing information.

Although coaching and psychotherapy are different modalities, they share some similarities as well. One of the primary differences is that coaching focuses on the client's present situation and seeks strategies for moving toward a desired result. Psychotherapy tends to look analytically at the past as a way of moving forward.

At times, coaching can look like therapy in that people address concerns that are critically important to them; they are not devoid of emotion as coaching depends on a person's self awareness to be successful.

Coaching is recommended for people who are relatively emotionally healthy, while psychotherapy can address a wider range of individual problems and emotional states. This is not to say that people who are experiencing a mild depression cannot benefit from coaching and in fact, many clients come to coaching initially feeling low. The distinction is in the person's current capacity to access the tools and their own inner motivation to utilize the coaching experience to their benefit.
